Matthew 24:44 – "Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh."

This verse serves as a sobering reminder of the unexpected nature of Christ’s return. Jesus calls His followers to live in a constant state of spiritual readiness, not relying on predictions or signs alone. The surrounding parables (Matthew 24:43–51; 25:1–13) reinforce two critical truths:

  1. He may come sooner than expected, like a thief in the night.

  2. He may delay longer than we anticipate, testing our faith and perseverance.

The warning is clear: complacency is dangerous. Just when we assume His coming is far off—that is the moment He may appear.

In verses 45–51, Jesus contrasts the faithful and wise servant with the evil servant, emphasizing personal responsibility and accountability. Even those who reject Him are still stewards of what God has entrusted to them and will be judged accordingly (cf. 2 Peter 3:4).

Ultimately, this verse calls for urgency: don’t delay repentance or devotion. The trumpet could sound at any moment.

Be ready. Stay faithful. Live watchfully.
