Romans 6:23 (KJV)"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
📖 Devotional Reflection
Life often teaches us that effort earns reward. We work, and we get paid. We strive, and we achieve. But in the spiritual realm, this equation takes on a sobering twist—the wages of sin is death. Every wrong thought, every selfish act, every sin adds up to a cost far beyond what we can repay. It’s not merely physical death that is in view here, but eternal separation from God—life cut off from its Source.
Yet, God steps into the equation with a gift—a gift we could never earn, deserve, or repay. Eternal life. Not temporary relief. Not a second chance on our own terms. But life that is full, abundant, and never-ending—through Jesus Christ our Lord.
This gift comes through Jesus because He took upon Himself what we had earned. He received the "wages" we were owed, dying in our place on the cross. And through His resurrection, He offers what only He possesses—eternal life.
The poem “From Death to Life” reminds us of this divine exchange. Our labor in sin led only to death. But Jesus, through grace, hands us a gift we could never afford. We are no longer bound by sin’s payment plan. We are set free to live—truly, joyfully, eternally.
🙏 Prayer
Lord Jesus,Thank You for paying the price I could never pay. Thank You for the gift of eternal life, freely offered through Your sacrifice. Help me to walk in this gift—not striving in guilt, but rejoicing in grace. Let my life reflect the love You’ve given, and may I never forget the cost of Your mercy.Amen.
The wage of sin—an iron chain,That drags the soul through death and pain.
Each selfish act, each whispered lie,Builds the tombstone where we die.
We labored long in shadow's hold,Our hearts grown weary, love grown cold.
Yet still we worked with blinded eyes,Unknowing doom beneath the skies.
But mercy stirred in heaven’s heart, A gift divine, a brand-new start.
Not earned by toil, nor bought by gold,But freely given—grace untold.
Through Jesus Christ, the spotless Lamb,Who bore the curse for who I am—
He broke the grave, He paid the price,And clothed the lost in robes of life.
So now, though sin once claimed my breath,Its wages paid through Savior’s death
I rise, redeemed by love so wide,To walk in light, now justified.
Eternal life—no longer earned,But given where God's mercy burned.
A gift from hands once pierced for me,That I might live, and live set free.
For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God
Is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Savior.
