📖 Scripture Reading: Luke 24:1–5 (KJV)

Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus. And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?

Reflective Poem: Why Seek Ye the Living?

Now upon the first day’s breath,When dawn still danced on deathless dew,The women came with sorrowed steps,With hearts still pierced and love still true.

They bore their spices, grief in hand,To honor Him in silent grace,Yet found a stone by angels moved—A tomb left hollow, not His place.

They entered in with trembling soul,The air was still, no body lay.Their Lord, once wrapped in burial cloth,Was gone—His frame had slipped away.

Perplexed, they stood in silence cold,Till sudden light from heaven shone,Two men in garments laced with flame—Celestial messengers made known.

Afraid, they bowed with faces low,As holy fire brimmed the air,But from those lips a question cameThat shattered night, dissolved despair:

“Why seek ye the living among the dead?He is not here, but risen indeed! The grave could not bind the King of Life,Nor silence the Word the Father decreed!”

O morning bright! O voice of flame!O stone rolled back by love’s own hand! The Risen One walks forth in light,With victory sown through every land.

So come, ye mourning, lift your eyes,The tomb is bare, the veil is torn—The Lord of life has conquered death,And joy, not spices, must be borne.

🕊️ Devotional Thought:

On that first resurrection morning, the faithful women came expecting to care for a corpse—but they found a miracle. The question from heaven still echoes across time:“Why seek ye the living among the dead?”

We often search for hope in lifeless places: old habits, broken identities, fading dreams. But Jesus isn't found in the tomb. He walks in resurrection power, calling us to rise with Him.

Where are we still looking for life in dead places? What tombs do we need to walk away from today?

🙏 Prayer:

Risen Savior,We praise You for the empty tomb and the eternal hope You offer. Forgive us for the times we search for life in places You’ve already called us out from.Open our eyes to see You in our midst, alive and reigning.Let resurrection light flood every dark corner of our hearts. We declare today—You are not dead. You are risen indeed. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Would you like the next devotional entry to build on this one (maybe focusing on the appearance to Mary Magdalene or the disciples in the upper room)?
