“And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Art thou He that should come? or look we for another?” Luke 7:19
What a powerful statement, “Art thou He that should come …?: John The Baptist was not the sort of man who vacillated. We are not to think that his faith was failing or that he had lost confidence in Christ. But with so many unexpected turns of events, John being thrown into prison, Christ encountering unbelief and hostility, John wanted reassurance from Christ himself. That is precisely what Jesus gave him. How many of us have every felt like, Jesus is not concerned with any of our adversities? Have you ever felt like Jesus is so far away, yet my struggles are so close. John already knows that Jesus is the one, because he saw the dove light on Jesus and remain. God had previously told John that when this happened, the person would be the Messiah. The message that will be brought back will be for the benefit of John’s disciples. Please, notice that, there are probably two or more disciples. A thing must be established by two. "But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established." Matt. 18
John wants his disciples to be fully persuaded by what Jesus says and does: that He is the Christ, The Messiah, Saviour of the world. John is in prison at this time and his disciples may be beginning to doubt. I am sure this is not for John’s benefit; because long before this, John called Jesus the Lamb of God. If you recall Andrew and Phillip were disciples of John The Baptist. The scriptures tell us that “Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.” Jesus, the just tell them who He was, He showed them! “Go your way, and tell John” are quoted from (Isaiah 35:5-6; 61:1). These were messianic promises (Isaiah 61:1), from the same passage Jesus read in the Nazareth synagogue. John’s disciple were to report that Jesus was doing precisely what Scripture foretold of the Messiah, even though the scheme of prophetic fulfillment was not unfolding quite the way John the Baptist had envisioned it. God is still God, and He continues to work miracles in the life of believer's, daily. Whatever you're going through, you don't have to look any further, Jesus knows all about it before you even speak a word. Speak the word of God over your life, in faith and knowing that God will heal, deliver and restore, just trust Him. You don't have to look any further than Jesus, El, Chay (The Living God)
